On March 13, Astellas welcomed leaders from Bay Area building trades unions to its new West Coast Innovation Center in South San Francisco for a facility tour hosted in partnership with the Pharmaceutical Industry Labor Management Association (PILMA). The event celebrated the vital partnership between the biopharmaceutical industry and union labor, which made the state-of-the-art 154,000-square-foot facility possible.
Attendees included senior Astellas leaders and representatives from local unions involved in the construction—SMART Local 104, IBEW Local 617, UA Locals 467 and 483, Ironworkers Local 377, and the International Union of Operating Engineers—as well as Chris Hannan, President of the State Building and Construction Trades Council of California, and a representative from Tradeswomen Build Nations.
The program featured remarks from Astellas executives and union leadership, a tour of the facility, and a lunch reception. The event also explored shared priorities including women’s health in the workplace and expanded prostate cancer screening access.
