The unions and companies of the Pharmaceutical Industry Labor-Management Association recognize that a strong domestic pharmaceutical industry providing innovative, affordable medicines is vital to the American people. The U.S. biopharmaceutical industry discovers and manufactures medicines that enhance the quality of life and longevity. The U.S. industry is the global leader in scientific research, innovation and manufacturing. It provides hundreds of thousands of high-paying jobs and contributes over $200 billion to the gross domestic product.
At the same time, the Association recognizes the need to address issues of mutual interest and concern to the industry, its workers and all Americans, including: access to medicines and affordability of medicines; funding of innovative research and future cures; and maintaining a strong U.S. industry.
The Association resolves to:
- Work together on legislative, regulatory and other key issues affecting the pharmaceutical industry and organized labor in the national interest;
- Discuss areas where there is disagreement between the parties in a committed effort to find common ground and mutual benefit;
- Investigate the issues affecting access to and affordability of medicines;
- Focus on maintaining strong stateside employment and research leadership for the U.S. industry.
